Swanage Railway Diesel Gala, 12th May 2023 Part 3: 47830 'BEECHING'S LEGACY'

A locomotive leading something of a charmed life, currently mostly working driver trainers for Freightliner, although it seems not to have moved from Maritime since it returned from Swanage.

47830 was new on 24th December 1965 from BR Crewe. Seen on the blocks of platform 1 in Swaange.

Peak Rail Diesel Gala, 16th April 2023 Part 2: 03901

I really was not aware that there is an 03901, but all was revealed upon this visit. Originally delivered as D2128 in January 1960 from BR Swindon, and allocated to 83D Laira, it became 03128 in February 1974 and was withdrawn in July 1976 at Bristol. There then follows a long story of removing its Gardner engine for usage elsewhere, replacement for work in Belgium, and a return to the UK. Eventually it has joined the Andrew Briddon Collection, and now sports a 350 bhp Cummins engine, with hydraulic transmission, leading to the '03901' numbering. Further updates at Weekend Rails.

Strathspey Railway Mixed Traffic Gala, 7th April 2023 part 4: 5025

My personal journey with 5025 goes back to a second visit to Boat of Garten, in 1974, when I learned of the locomotives planned to work at the Strathspey. In 1982, I was on a railtour from Perth to the Strathspey and back, with 5025 in both directions, turned at the turntables in Perth (sadly now gone) and Aviemore. After that I saw the locomotive in storage on a mid-1990s visit. The attraction of the 2023 visit becoming a mixed-traffic gala was to reacquaint myself with the locomotive after its 1935 look restoration, which looks fantastic.

Backing down into the station from the shed at Aviemore.

5025 + 46512 wait to depart with 2H15 13:00 Aviemore - Broomhill.

Seven of the units were in traffic on Thursday 18th. These are the oldest EMU stock operating on Network Rail.

As an aside, 313018 was not sent to the Southern, and remained at work on the Great Northern lines until sent to Sims at Newport on 17th June 2019.
