Class 50s to Leven, 26th August 2024

 

50007 Hercules runs down from Lochmuir summit towards Markinch, with 1Z60 08:03 Aberdeen - Leven.


Running through the much changed Markinch station, in its recently applied, at Eastleigh Works, large logo livery.

Only 8 minutes in the car from Markinch to Cameron Bridge, but the train had to reverse and wait for a scheduled Leven Branch train. 44 minutes after passing Markinch, 50049 Defiance enters Cameron Bridge station.

1Z62 routed through Cowdenbeath to 'Dunfermline Townhill' (which is at Halbeath) where 50049 ran around to lead the train, now 'Scots Streaker III' seen here approaching Inverkeithing.

A short break at Heywood, 27th July 2024

 

37109 arrives at Heywood from Bury.


37109 was new as D6809 from English Electric Vulcan Foundry on 1st February 1963. Sold into preservation at the East Lancashire Railway in November 2007.

34092 City of Wells was also working, seen running around its train.

34092 seen ready to depart for Bury. A 10 year overhaul was completed on a rapid basis in 2023.

43030, seen on 14th November 2019 at Aberdour, was broken up in Irvine this week, along with 43185. The cab from 43030 is being moved to 43129.

On hire from National Express to Cross-Country, 43319 arrives in Totnes, 4th July 2009. This power car was stored at Ely in April 2021, and moved to Great Yarmouth in February 2024.

Swanage Railway Diesel Gala, 10th May 2024 Part 6: Class 50s

50021 departing with 1R06 11:39 Swanage - River Frome Viaduct. The locomotive failed near Corfe Common, causing 90 minutes of disruption while being rescued by 33111. The fault was repaired, and 50021 was out on Saturday, succumbing to another minor fault later.

For the rest of Friday daytime, 50026 Indomitable  took over the duties, here seen on the rear of the delayed 1R10 13:39 Swanage- River Frome Viaduct, at Corfe Castle.

The locomotive returned with the delayed 1R11 14:32 River Frome Viaduct - Swanage, again at Corfe Castle.

'Tangmere' climbs Shap, 22nd June 2024

34067 Tangmere + 47746 Chris Fudge 29.7.70-22.6.10 T+T "The Cumbrian Mountain Express" 1Z86 06:30 London Euston - Carlisle. 86259 handed over to 34067 at Carnforth. with a 1 hour delay. The Class 47 was shoving hard as a Pendolino Class 390 was on its tail, and the special was recessed into the loop at Shap Summit.

This locomotive is air-brake fitted, so can work with the CDL fitted Mk2 coaches.

The solstice was 20:51 GMT(21:51 BST) on 20th June, with nominal sunset at 21:04 (22:04 BST) at 56° N, although it was overcast, which made the light more difficult.

In the pre-amble, 800102 passes with a late running 1W24 16:00 Kings Cross - Aberdeen.


158731 departs with 2K81 21:07 Edinburgh - Leven as 170433 passes through with 1L32 20:44 Dundee - Edinburgh.


In the minute of solstice, 70802 passes through with 6B36 19:25 Craiginches - Oxwellmains.

70802 spent a lot of time in 2022 and 2023 in Eastleigh and then Doncaster, while work was performed on engine issues.
