60119 leads 1013 into Romsey.


60119 was delivered in 1013 from BR Eastleigh in May 1957 - now in its 70th year.

TSL 70262 came from Class 411/5 4-CEP 7113, delivered from BR Eastleigh in October 1958, refurbished at BREL Swindon in 1981 as 1524 and withdrawn in November 1995, forwarded to St Leonards in July 1996.

TB 69337 was delivered from BR York in 4-BIG 7058 in October 1970. In April 1985 the unit became 2210, then 1411 in September 1997 when the buffet was decommissioned. 1411 wen to Eastleigh in January 1998, where 69337 was removed, and forwarded to St Leonards in March 1998. 1411 returned to traffic as a 3-COP.

TSL 60528 (BR Eastleigh, 1957 within 1013) was returned to mainline use in 2023.

This is somewhat reminiscent of the 3H 'Thumpers' that were once common in Romsey.

Locomotives around Innsbruck, 3rd and 6th June 2026

 Here, I am avoiding the Taurus and Vectron types which were, of course, very visible.

Arriving at Innsbruck on 3rd found 2070 027 in a yard. The Class 2070 diesel-hydraulic was built by Vossloh at the Kiel MaK facility as their model G 800 BB "Hector".

Similar 2070 073 at the southern end of the station.

Leaving Innsbruck, I noted this pair of Class 1144. 

On Saturday 6th, I returned to find them in the same place. This is 1144 050, built in January 1980, and the older number 1044 050 can still be seen at the frame level. heavy maintenance on this class is finally completing in summer 2026.

The other example is 1144 069, new in December 1980. Both locomotives appear to have sat here for a while, as they can be seen on Google Maps, with the same marks and weathering on the roofs.

Class 2067 are diesel hydraulic shunters of 600 hp, built between 1959 and 1977. 2067 094 was new in September 1975.

Similar 2067 095 was also new in September 1975.

Southampton Maritime, possibly 16th January 2000

A sample from a stored box of photographs, about a year before my transition to digital. No specific dates, but it feels like it may have been a bike ride, on a day with a low winter sun, and there is an earlier shot of 73101 crossing Canute Road with a return VSOE - possibly a working of Sunday 16th January 2000. I may have put the shot of 35028 as 35002 into an album, as I seem to recall it.

47372 is the main subject here, built as D1891 at Brush Loughborough, and new to traffic on 6th August 1965. Renumbered to 47372 about February 1974, then put in storage by Freightliner in December 2000. It entered the 57/3 programme, arriving at Brush in November 2002, becoming 57314 in October 2004, and now in the West Coast fleet.

At left, 08077 was a regular for Freightliner in that period. It had been new from BR Derby in February 1955, as 13102, later D3102, and 08077. Withdrawn in November 1977, but entered a second life, and was eventually stored in April 2007. There was then a collision at Maritime in July 2008, leading to removal in August 2008 and disposal at Barton under Needwood in May 2014.

47349 was over the pit. New as D1830 from Brush on 18th March 1965, renumbered to 47349 in October 1973. It was stored at Eastleigh in February 2000, but reinstated in May that year, once again stored at Maritime from May 2001 with wheelset defects. Returned to traffic in July 2001, it was stored at Crewe in November 2001. Moved to Brush, Loughborough by road in November 2002, it became 57603 in late 2003.

47376 Freightliner 1995 was new from Brush as D1895 in September 1965. renumbered to 47376 in February 1974. Stored in July 2001, it is preserved at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, and has been active at many diesel galas in subsequent years.

47303 Freightliner Cleveland was new from Brush as D1784 on 7th November 1964, renumbered to 47303 in February 1974. and then stopped and stored in December 2005. Disposed of to TJ Thompson, Stockton in July 2007, and scrapped in December that year.

47283 was next in line after 47303. 47283 was new from BR Cewe as D1985 in January 1966, renumbered to 47283 in April 1974. It was stored in October 1999 at Crewe and was moved to Southampton about this while in stored status. It did not work again, and was removed to MoD Longtown / Smalmstown in February 2003. To Kingsbury in June 2004, and scrapped in September of that year.

At that time, perfectly regular, two Class 442 5-WES pass by. Along the yard, another Class 47 is coupled ready for an outward working. The gasholder remained in usage for a further few years, eventually removed about 2022.

PCA wagons BCC (Blue Circle Cement) 10835 (BREL Ashford 1981) and BCC 11035 (Powell Duffryn 1984-87) were part of a set of 46 of these wagons moved to North Blyth for disposal on 22nd July one two three. Seen above at Chesterfield on 5th September 2023.

Miscellany at Eastleigh, 22nd July 2026

 

Still Freightliner branded, Heavy Haul Rail 59203 crosses over the main lines with 6O68 09:11 Westbury Tarmac - Crawley.

66757 West Somerset Railway arrived from Western Docks, and later worked 6F10 11:48 Eastleigh - Wootton Bassett Civil Engineers train. This locomotive is understood to have re-geared and awaits renumbering to 66667.

Heavy Haul Rail 59101 Village of Whatley, working  0V16 11:55 Fareham-Whatley, has had 'Freightliner' branding removed, although not those for 'Zero Injuries - Our Goal Every Day', which originated with Genesee & Wyoming.
