Eastleigh Works, 29th November 2023

 

800209 appears to be close to completion of repairs, and return to LNER.

08567 and 01508 were shunting 450109 back into the works. The first coach of 450109 is on accommodation bogies.

Mk 2f TSO 6173, bearing evidence of its former DRS usage, although the doors are no longer light blue. Now owned by Eastern Rail Services, and being prepared for Locomotive Services. This coach worked on the Cumbrian Cost and Fife Circle for DRS, and was previously in the Wessex Trains pink liveried set.

Mk 2f TSO 6046 is also receiving similar attention. Another coach which saw service on the Fife Circle in 2019.

Freight at Eastleigh, 23rd November 2023

66303 arrives to stop with 3F01 12:18 Marchwood - Kineton.

66615 passes with6V62 1321 Up Yard  - Whatley, all wagons being Astra JNAs.

70014 approaches with 4O49 09:36 Basford Hall - Maritime.

66783 The Flying Dustman 4M46 14:24 Western Docks-Trafford Park pauses for a crew change.

After an 8 minute stop, 70014 clags on take-off.

First of class, 70001 PowerHaul arrives with 4S59 1457 Maritime - Coatbridge, which pauses at Basford Hall for over an hour, including a change to electric traction.

After a 7 minute stop, 70001 resumes its northward journey. The up slow through Allbrook to Shawford was operationally blocked, and the train has to await a preceding passenger working.

Class 458 testing, Eastleigh, 23rd November 2023

 

458423 leads 5Q90 1119 Bournemouth T&R.S.M.D to Basingstoke. This unit was moved to Bournemouth on 26th September.

New yaw damper arrangement attached between body and bogie, for higher speed running, restoring the 100 mph maximum speed specification. These dampers caused the clearance concerns earlier in the year.

458417 was the first unit re-delivered from Widnes on 18th July. Will these units enter service before Class 701?

40145 (D345) arrived at Romsey just on sunset.

The loco has been reversed, and the headboard is now in the centre position.

FO 3325, of Riviera Trains, Lot 30859 (BREL Derby December 1973) was repainted at Eastleigh Works in July 2022.

40145 (D345) was supplied by the Class 40 Preservation Society.


"Pathfinder Railtours 50 Years" headboard.


5921 is a Mk 2f TSO built to Lot 30846 at BREL Derby in April 1973.. While in Anglia colours, it has been in Riviera Trains ownership for about 15 years.

47848 was on the rear. This locomotive was sold to West Coast in March 2021. and repainted by August that year.

Running through platform 3.

The locomotive is in a Chiltern Railways scheme.

The two wagons were dropped off in the Works, and the locomotive continued light engine to Southampton for an overnight stop, continuing to Winfrith on Friday, with light engine return to Crewe.

Alstom: Train manufacturer puts 1,300 jobs at risk in Derby - one part of the workload until 1Q24 appears to be the remaining work on Class 701

08495, formerly of Eastleigh, has been moved from the NYMR, where it needed overhaul, and may be going to Tyseley arrived at Nemesis Rail, Burton, and may yet head to a West Midlands user.

The first deliveries of MXA wagons into scrapyards were made this week, among them 950965, delivered to Booth's Rotherham on 17th, having spent most of 2023 in Toton North Yard. Seen at Eastleigh on 10th September 2022. These wagons were rebodied in 2015-16, based upon steel carriers rebuilt 1975-78 from Bogie Bolster D wagons from the 1950s..
