Strathspey Railway Mixed Traffic Gala, 7th April 2023 part 4: 5025

My personal journey with 5025 goes back to a second visit to Boat of Garten, in 1974, when I learned of the locomotives planned to work at the Strathspey. In 1982, I was on a railtour from Perth to the Strathspey and back, with 5025 in both directions, turned at the turntables in Perth (sadly now gone) and Aviemore. After that I saw the locomotive in storage on a mid-1990s visit. The attraction of the 2023 visit becoming a mixed-traffic gala was to reacquaint myself with the locomotive after its 1935 look restoration, which looks fantastic.

Backing down into the station from the shed at Aviemore.

5025 + 46512 wait to depart with 2H15 13:00 Aviemore - Broomhill.

Two evening shots of 5025 upon arrival at Boat of Garten with 7B27 17:40 freight from Aviemore.

Good Friday, and relatively few present for appreciation.

Strathspey Railway Mixed Traffic Gala, 7th April 2023 part 3: 27050

When new, this locomotive was numbered D5394, delivered from BRCW on 20th June 1962 to Cricklewood. It migrated to the Scottish Region in 1968, and was later assigned to the intensive Edinburgh - Glasgow push-pull service as 27106, retaining its boiler, and where I first saw it in the 1970s. After the 47/7's arrived, it became 27050 in 1982 after an Intermediate General Repair, and was withdrawn in July 1987, in the mass withdrawal, after which it entered preservation in 1988. It has spent more time at Strathspey than in BR service!

"D5862 entered service with British Railways in October 1962. It was renumbered into the TOPS series as 31327 in February 1974 and carried the name Phillips Imperial from May 1987 until January 1990. Strathspey Railway Mixed Traffic Gala, 7th April 2023 part 1: 37674

37674 was new as D6869 on 23rd August 1963 from English Electric Vulcan Foundry, and was first allocated to Landore. It was renumbered to 37169 in May 1974, later went through a Heavy General Repair to become 37674 in June 1987. Stored at Motherwell in December 2004, and sold in 2007, after which it was moved to Kirkby Stephen East, then to the Wensleydale Railway in 2014, where it was returned to operational status. In December 2020 it moved on, eventually arriving at Strathspey in November 2021.
