LSL now have a Mk1 brake for steam duties, this is BFK 17013 (BR Swindon, Lot 30668, January 1962) which was outshopped from Eastleigh in March 2023.

Carmine and cream unidentified Mk1 BSK. Dual heat, dual braked, B4 bogies. No CDL, so may be a support coach? UPDATE: After some feedback, and review of the writing under C1 and ETH3, this appears to be the 6024 support coach 35333, newly transferred from Commonwealth to B5 bogies, and repainted in carmine and cream, over a 2022 repaint in chocolate and cream.

37409 and 313201. 37409 brought in a rake of EWS liveried Mk2f coaches two days before, which can be seen beyond 37409.

Mendip aggregates timetables are recast from11th December. Most workings to this area appear unchanged, although the Chichester empties will default to 6V09, which has been previously used.

37409 is understood to be remaining at Eastleigh Works for cosmetic attention.

59003 remains within Eastleigh Works.

Mendip JNA wagons moved to storage at Gascoigne Wood, 4th December 2023

VTG 3450 passing Romsey, 25th July 2023.

On 4th December, it was reported that 70016 was hauling 6E53 10:20 Basford Hall - Gascoigne Wood. The consist was of 32 JNA wagons from the Mendip pools. listed below, most of which were seen on the aggregates trains from Merehead and Whatley to Chichester, Fareham and Southampton Up Yard, typically one or two per train.

After the KEA and JYA wagons were removed from usage last year, these were the oldest wagons in the Mendips box wagon traffic. I have added links below where pictures have appeared in 47Soton.

These JNAs were converted by Marcroft in 1998, using the running gear of ranker wagons.

The movement, which was preceded by 7M05 03:02 Wembley - Basford Hall on 2nd December, appears to eliminate the type from Mendip traffic.

My last sighting was VTG 3447, on 15th September.

59201 and 59101 Eastleigh Works paintshop exchange, Romsey, 4th December 2023

 Introducing the Heidelberg Materials livery scheme. But firstly ....

59201, the last DB red scheme Class 59/2 was sent to Eastleigh, 0Z59 07:38 Whatley (actually started from Westbury) - Eastleigh.

Noting the bell at one end of this locomotive. The next time we see this it should be in Freightliner G&W orange and black.

59201 had to a wait in platform for the 'Romsey Rocket' to arrive from and depart to Eastleigh.

59101 Village of Whatley returned 0Z60 11:58 Eastleigh - Whatley, outshopped in the new scheme.

The locomotive was held at the signal by a late running GWR train ahead of it, and then headed to Westbury and Whatley.

Miscellany at Eastleigh, 29th November 2023

 

While Class 701 are promised to enter traffic this year, this may seem a stretch of probability. Meanwhile, Class 455 units continue in service, with 5735 (new in October 1984) running as 5B39 1001 Wimbledon Park Depot Sdgs to Bournemouth T&R.S.M.D for maintenance.

As the Basford Hall rolled by, 66303 crept in with 4M19 11:50 Western Docks - East Midlands Gateway.

59003 once again appears to be poorly. It doesn't seem to have worked on the Westbury cycle this week, then when it did work to Eastleigh 0O41 on 29th,  it lost 90 minutes between Westbury and Upton Lovell. It eventually arrived at Eastleigh 98 minutes late at 13:32, as seen above, and the Fat Controller has sent it into the Works.

319373 may be moving Long Marston - Eastleigh Works, after 2 years away.

Landslip between Brookwood and Woking - BBC News - SWR

31106 Spalding Town is being sent to the EMR scrapyard at Kingsbury. On 31st July 2009, it was the motive power for an evening test train, seen at Eastleigh.
