87002 Royal Sovereign was new from BREL Crewe in June 1973, and was worked intensively on the West Coast route for 33 years until it hauled the last Class 87 diagram for Virgin in 2006. After a period of Electric Traction Ltd. / AC Locomotive Group operation, much of it with the Caledonian Sleeper, it was sold to Locomotive Services Ltd on 5th November.
47848 alongside 87002. 848 was sent to Ilford in March 2018 as an ETH generator for stock, and was stored there in September 2018.
