60119 leads 1013 into Romsey.


60119 was delivered in 1013 from BR Eastleigh in May 1957 - now in its 70th year.

TSL 70262 came from Class 411/5 4-CEP 7113, delivered from BR Eastleigh in October 1958, refurbished at BREL Swindon in 1981 as 1524 and withdrawn in November 1995, forwarded to St Leonards in July 1996.

TB 69337 was delivered from BR York in 4-BIG 7058 in October 1970. In April 1985 the unit became 2210, then 1411 in September 1997 when the buffet was decommissioned. 1411 wen to Eastleigh in January 1998, where 69337 was removed, and forwarded to St Leonards in March 1998. 1411 returned to traffic as a 3-COP.

TSL 60528 (BR Eastleigh, 1957 within 1013) was returned to mainline use in 2023.

This is somewhat reminiscent of the 3H 'Thumpers' that were once common in Romsey.

Earlier, 66536 + 66541 0K20 10:54 Leeds Balm Rd Loco (Fhh) - Carlisle New Yard. Balm Road appears to be adjacent to Midland Road.

Having made a good climb up the bank out of Westbury, the train was running 8 minutes early through the Wylye Valley, arriving 6 minutes early at its destination. 

In platform 4 after arrival.

Departure for the East Yard, where the stock was deposited for servicing.

The locomotive was serviced in the bay platforms, attended by two water bowsers.

After servicing the locomotive returned to the East Yard, and is seen on a little used crossover from there to access platform 4.

Arriving amongst autumn colours, 7½ minutes early from London.

Down 'Bournemouth Belle', 5th July 2017

1Z67 09:52 Waterloo – Bournemouth hauled by newly overhauled 35028 Clan Line, at £450 a head.

50th anniversary run for the 'Bournemouth Belle', which last ran with steam on 5th July 1967 (34024 Tamar Valley down, 34036 Westward Ho up), and last ran on 9th July 1967 (one two)  with D1924 - now known to us as 47810, owned by Arlington, and currently kept within Eastleigh Works (update: was outside and partially visible 8th July)

50th anniversary also of Clan Line's last workings for BR on 5th.

86th anniversary of the first run of the Belle on the 5th July 1931.

Recently repainted from grey at Eastleigh, 66747 arrives with 1O95 at its destination.

73109 and 73119 Borough of Eastleigh run, in the rain, from Eastleigh Yard to the depot to be attached to the train.

66747 departs for Bournemouth, with the 73s on the rear.

TSO 4949 built at Wolverton to Lot 30690, entering traffic in 1961.

The Solent and Sarum, 13th September 2014

34046 Braunton leads the train into Salisbury about 3 minutes early after some spirited running between Andover and Grateley.

34046 was built at Brighton. and went into traffic on 14th November 1946, rebuilt in its current form in February 1959 at Eastleigh, and reallocated the following month to 71B Bournemouth, Withdrawn from there on 10th October 1965, after which it went to Barry scrapyard.

Back through the station to return to the train, which was in the East Carriage Sidings.

The return route was via Havant and Petersfield. Here seen approaching Romsey against a red signal.

Still waiting at that red signal, caused by 158880 which was running late in the Eastleigh - Romsey - Eastleigh single line section working, following an earlier 20 minute delay by a First Great Western working.
