'Tornado' touches down at Redbridge, 10th September 2026

66063 + 60163 5Z81 10:32 Tyseley Steam Trust - Basingstoke - Laverstock - Redbridge (run around) - Swanage

Arriving at Redbridge from the Test Valley line.


Having run around, 66063 now drags Tornado and its support coach 21249, heading to Swanage.

Miscellany at Eastleigh, 22nd July 2026

 

Still Freightliner branded, Heavy Haul Rail 59203 crosses over the main lines with 6O68 09:11 Westbury Tarmac - Crawley.

66757 West Somerset Railway arrived from Western Docks, and later worked 6F10 11:48 Eastleigh - Wootton Bassett Civil Engineers train. This locomotive is understood to have re-geared and awaits renumbering to 66667.

Heavy Haul Rail 59101 Village of Whatley, working  0V16 11:55 Fareham-Whatley, has had 'Freightliner' branding removed, although not those for 'Zero Injuries - Our Goal Every Day', which originated with Genesee & Wyoming.

20205, now owned by Romic, approaches with 5O19 08:05 Kings Norton - Eastleigh, operated by Rail Adventure.

20205 entering platform 3. The locomotives and barriers are the same as those which brought coaches of 395008 to the Works for collision damage repair, on 12th December 2025.


20007 on the rear. Both locomotives now have Romic ownership plates.

69011 is now one of the designated super shunters.

66136 runs by with  4O39 09:35 Morris Cowley - Eastern Docks.


73212 Stephen Eaves + 73128 Kent & East Sussex Railway arrive as 0Y68 09:39 Tonbridge - Eastleigh.

Scotland, June - July 2026

 

The longer evenings around the solstice give the chance to see 6B36 19:25 Craiginches - Oxwellmains cement empties in the daaylight. 70813 is seen with this task at Aberdour on 25th June.

801226 and 801218 at Edinburgh Waverley, 27th June.

92018 was tucked away between workings of the Caledonian Sleeper, and platform access was by ticket at the time I was there.

In EWS colours, but marked for DB, 66028 passing Aberdour with  6K01 04:05 Auchterarder - Millerhill, 29th June.


A short while later came 37418 An Comunn Gaidhealach + 975025 Caroline ...


... working as 5Z55 06:03 Slateford Depot - Inverness C.S.D. (Carriage Servicing Depot). It is understood that Loram may be relinquishing their operating licence in September.

37418 was new from English Electric Vulcan Foundry in March 1965 as D6971, later 37271, then Heavy General Overhaul and ETH conversion to 37418 was completed in November 1985. 975025 Caroline was built at Eastleigh in 1958 as Hastings DEMU buffet 60755, but laid aside in 1964. Converted to the Southern Region General Manager's Saloon as DB 975025 in 1969.

43169 (+ set HA20 + 43182) 1B80 12:07 Aberdeen - Edinburgh. at the former Donibristle Halt, 3rd July.

At the same location, 66746 Piper Major Iain Grant with 'Royal Scotsman' 1H79 13:45 Edinburgh - Keith.
 

6K's in Fife, 1st March 2026

4 of them, at roughly hourly intervals, and currently the only daylight loco-hauled workings in Fife. All worked from Hilton Junction through Perth to Dundee for reversal, then crossing the Tay Bridge.

In early light, 66588 passing Aberdour at 07:45 with 6K04 06:00 Hilton Jn - Millerhill.

KFA wagon TIPH 93323 overhauled at Eastleigh in 2020, and now among the survivors of its type.

66422 Max Joule 1958-1999 at Burntisland with 6K02 07:30 Hilton Jn - Millerhill.

66199 at the site of Donibristle Halt, with the late running 6K01 08:45 Hilton Jn - Millerhill, fomed of a rake of YKA 'Osprey' wagons loaded with used track panels.

66705 Golden Jubilee on the rear of this train.

DB Cargo at Eastleigh, 9th April 2025

 

Shiny 66122 was repainted and returned to DB Cargo traffic on 10th March. This loco was one of 5 until recently leased to DRS.

66088 4O39 09:43 Morris Cowley - Eastern Docks.

Original EWS colours on 66013 and the long term parked 66107, which was having its engine run briefly on the afternoon of 5th.

70017 4M61 12:56 Maritime - Trafford Park.


70001 PowerHaul 4O90 06:04 Leeds - Maritime.

66596 4M65 13:12 Maritime - Lawley Street.

66148 Maritime Intermodal Seven 4O43 06:32 Wakefield Europort - Western Docks. This was running on a VAR timing, arriving quite a bit later into Eastleigh.

DB Cargo at Eastleigh, 14th February 2025

 

66775 + 66001, the lowest number Class 66, arriving as 0O41 10:14 Westbury - Eastleigh.

Trains that were using the Down Fast were running very slowly, and others were routed via the Down Slow. 66244, until recently the highest numbered DB Class 66 in the UK, runs through platform 3 with 4O39 09:43 Cowley - Eastern Docks.

66094 with 4O43 05:55 Wakefield Europort - Western Docks. This train operated for one week on a later VAR timing, running just ahead of 4O90 from Leeds.

08511 made a lengthy shunt of some aging MXA wagons.

66090 Maritime Intermodal Six, 4O39 09:43 Cowley - Eastern Docks.
