Test Train, Romsey, 2nd June 2022

43290 + 43299 1X23 15:13½ Salisbury - Southampton UGL - Eastleigh -Salisbury (Redbridge - Romsey blocked by signalling issue).

The original NMT power cars may be back soon, as their ETCS fit is reported to be completed.

43290 leads into Romsey.


Normally the train reverses, but not this time, an 43290 continues to lead on the return trip, having run through Chandlers Ford.

Worth Valley Steam, 30th May 2022

For my first train ride in quite a considerable while, a trip on a Monday on the Worth Valley Railway, which I first visited 43 years ago.

BR 2MT 78022 brings the coaches out of the carriage sidings at Oxenhope.

Running around at Keighley. 78022 was built at BR Darlington in 1954.

Seen at Haworth, LMS Class 2MT tank 41241 was working the previous day, and again later in the week. 41241 was built at BR Crewe in 1949, to a LMS Ivatt design, is a tank version with similar heritage to 78022.

Paused for a station stop at Haworth.

LMS Class 3F 47279 (Vulcan Foundry, 1924) is on display in the Oxenhope exhibition shed.


78022 waits at Oakworth for a wedding party to disembark from the train.

43467 has been moved away from the other Hanson + Hall / Rail Adventure power cars, and is seen facing new arrival (arrived 30th May) 66720, in for repainting.

37716 awaits attention. From the rear, the row contains the other three Hanson + Hall / Rail Adventure power cars, then 59003. The nearest coach is FO 3325.

319377 and the four remaining coaches of 442412.

769947 is shunted, with 43480 beyond.

As with two other examples, the MS 62689 of 317729 was retained to one side, while the rest of the unit has been scrapped, as has all of 317732.

The bodies of 142089 were reported as scrapped late in the month of May.

SRPS Diesel Gala, Bo'ness, 28th May 2022

 
70010 + 70816 + 27001 passing Snabb, at the western end of the Kinneil area of Bo'ness.

27001 ready for the first departure of the day.

56105, something of a Bo'ness favourite, has wheelset issues, and appears to await pickup being organised by Colas, having arrived from Grangemouth on 5th March.

70816 makes its first arrival at Bo'ness, having arrived off the main line at Manuel.

Hydrogen fuelled 614209, under conversion from 314209.

26038 Tom Clift has been receiving maintenance.

Newly returned 37025 Inverness TMD was started in the afternoon, and ran a service to Manuel on the Sunday. It is understood to require new tyres before any further main-line usage.

The two guests, 70010 and 70816. I have been advised that 70s are not permitted to couple up to coaching stock because of gangway clearance conflict.
