33012 workings, 12th and 13th May 2024

33012 + 73109 + 4-TC + 69002 1Z35 14:20 Swanage - Waterloo approaching Eastleigh, 12th May.


D6515 running through platform 1, as the Up Fast was out of use with a signalling fault.

On Monday 13th, at Redbridge, 33012 passing with 0Z36 11:05 Eastleigh Arlington (Zg) - Swanage, which completed the recent series of workings.

Swanage Railway Diesel Gala, 10th May 2024 Part 1: D1015 'WESTERN CHAMPION'

Now powered by two ex-Indian Navy MTU Series 538 engines, a 1969 period development of the Maybach MD655 which originally equipped the Western class.


WESTERN CHAMPION is readied at Swanage for its first turn of the day.

D1015 was new from BR Swindon on 21st January 1963, in a golden ochre scheme, and was withdrawn following a derailment on 8th December 1976. After some years at Swindon Works, it was acquired in 1980 by the Diesel Traction Group.

Later in the day, at the field near Corfe Castle, with 1R14 1539 Swanage - River Frome Viaduct, but running very late after 50021 failed and disrupted the planned timetable.

Class 701 moves, 9th May 2024

 


Recently delivered 701059 under test, 5Q51 11:15 Waterloo - Staines Up Loop, passing Redbridge.


69011 + 701032 5Q82 13:15 Marchwood -Wimbledon Park Depot, also at Redbridge.


701032 was delivered on 28th May 2021, and entered storage at Marchwood on 8th February 2023.

Colas Class 56 swap, 9th May 2024

After some weeks at Eastleigh, associated with training, 56096 departed to Westbury, where it was exchanged for 56094.

Shortly afterwards, passing Romsey. The locomotive was built at BREL Doncaster, and entered service on 13th September 1981.


As something of a surprise, the returning loco was 56094, seen at Redbridge.

Class 458 snapshot, Eastleigh, 8th May 2024

Along with the Class 442s and Class 701s, the Class 458 upgrade may be another extended saga, with no apparent assigned duties forthcoming.


458421 5Q91 13:20 Basingstoke to Bournemouth T&R.S.M.D. This unit was delivered to Bournemouth on 16th April.


4 units are in 'warn storage' at Eastleigh Works, of a total expected to be 8. At left, 458428 + 458423, preserved 313201, then 458424 + 458416.
