Eastleigh notes, 7th February 2023

 

70017 running as 1Z99 from Maritime to Micheldever to rescue 70011 which had failed on 4M55 08:23 Maritime - Lawley Street, and was blocking the Up line to Basingstoke. Some workings, including 70017, ran over the slow line using bi-directional signalling in the Micheldever area. Southbound trains from Garston and Hinksey were diverted via Laverstock.

DR 98974 arriving from the Works as 3Z24 1114 to Effingham Jn. The front end was freshly touched up, but numberless, after repairs following a collision with a tree near East Grimstead on 23rd November, while working from Totton.

08683 shunts DC 967642, a rare YQA 'Parr' rebuilt from 1960 built Bogie Borail Flat 946104 in 1981 The replacement yellow '4524' FEA-W deliveries to Network Rail appear to have been completed, many residing in Eastleigh Yard, but apparently yet to see service.

Class 701: South Western Railway reveal expected first route for three year late £1bn Arterio trains

SWR contract extended for 2 years

Down slow line at Hook expected to be available from 12th February, followed by return slew of down fast for 19th, with work to conclude around 23rd.
 - No late trains between Farnborough and Basingstoke for 10 days as SWR completes landslip repairs

New Measurement Train, Romsey, 9th February 2023

43272 + 43290 1X23 15:13 Salisbury- Southampton UGL - Salisbury. Believed to be the first visit of 43272 to Hampshire on these duties, and possibly ever, as this was a Midland Main Line loco some 30 years ago, rather than Cross Country.

Test coaches were 977984 + 975814 + 977993 + 977994 +  975984.

Not much has changed in the external view of Campbell Road Bridge, although signs indicate that the £2m or so strengthening project was intended to be active between October and December 2022.

Girder works for a new build of 4 industrial units within in the Works area, outside of the current Arlington boundary.

701031 and 701025 stored in the Works.

Weekend work continues on 50021 and 50026.

701011 and 701012 were the visible numbers seen at the Airport Sidings.


47739 awaits further 701 moves, while 08629 and 08683 await further yard shunting.

Class 701 drags to Marchwood expect again run next week, 47739 has arrived, paths are in for Monday and Tuesday, as before, then Wednesday morning.

David Macbrayne Ltd, a Scottish Government entity, which owns Calmac, have sold its share of Solent Gateway, which operates Marchwood Port, to ABP.

Class 69 - from RAIL, expected return in April - 69002 & 69004 now at Longport, remainder now at Peterborough.
