Diesels at Embsay, 28th July 2024

08773 was shunting at Embsay. New as D3941 from BR Derby on 19th March 1960, withdrawn in March 1994. Sold to EMR in April 2000, and moved from Toton in July that year.

37294 was new as D6994 from English Electric, Newton-le-Willows on 8th July 1965. Stored by EWS in May 1999, sent to France from August 1999 - August 2000, then returned to traffic October 2002 - February 2003. Sold in January 2009, and moved to Embsay in March 2009.

31452, of Eastern Rail Services was alongside, visiting the railway from 3rd July for a film contract, for which it recently received an Intercity scheme. There are 3 similarly liveried Mk2 e/f coaches at Bolton Abbey, with various grass attachments on the roofs, it would seem related - one hopes that it is to be a comedy. 31452 was new as D5809 in July 1961, first allocated to 41A Sheffield Darnall, later renumbered to 31279 before ETH conversion in October 1984

There is a 'demic line on the other side of the active track. 31119 was new as D5537 on 25th June 1959, and was re-engined in July 1967. Withdrawn in September 1995, and was preserved by the Newton Heath Diesel Traction Group, moving to Embsay on 1st~March 2006, where it worked for several years, until a failure.

47004 has seen better days, where I remember its appearance at the Severn Valley Railway in 2000 while still operated by EWS. New as D1524 from Brush Loughborough on 14th June 1963, nd was moved into preservation at Embsay in June 2006, where it worked for a while.

20169 has recently arrived at the railway, and is under the same ownership as 37294. New from English Electric Vulcan Foundry on 25th October 1966, and withdrawn on 7th December 2001. Previously noted in 2013 while at Kirkby Stephen East.
